Deleted Computer Files and Skull Fractures Focus of Dooley Retrial Monday

BURLINGTON, Ky. (WKRC) – Jurors heard dueling opinions Monday about whether Michelle Mockbee’s husband “ran” a program on his computer that permanently deletes files after receiving a call that deputies had the warehouse where they worked blocked off and employees couldn’t get onto the property.

David Dooley’s attorneys called a computer expert who testified that the Cipher program, which comes standard with Windows, ran on the computer the morning of Michelle’s murder. Dooley’s attorneys have suggested that Michelle’s husband, Dan Mockbee, had a financial motive to kill his wife.

Andrew Garrett of Garrett Discovery testified the Cipher program was active that morning on a computer owned by Dan.

“Cipher destroys files so they can’t be recovered,” Garrett said. He added that the program is activated by using MS-DOS commands.
