Abingdon-Avon Tech Director Seeks $7M in Suit

GALESBURG — The fourth civil lawsuit of 2018 was officially filed with the Knox County Circuit Clerk’s office at 4:44 p.m. Jan. 31.

Its outcome could have a lasting impact on Abingdon-Avon School District 276.

In the seven-count complaint, District 276 Technology Director Mark Rogers alleges the school board, former Superintendent Chad Willis, and forensic investigator Andrew Garrett of Garrett Investigations violated the Whistleblower Act and the Illinois Student Records Act; intentionally inflicted emotional distress; negligently inflicted emotional distress; engaged in civil conspiracy; engaged in actions that led to Rogers’ false arrest and false imprisonment; and defamed him.

Represented by the Monmouth-based firm of Gullberg, Box, Worby & Rogers, in the complaint Rogers asks for $30,000 for compensatory damages and $1 million in punitive damages for each of the seven counts.
